by: Debbie Wicker

Hi Carole,

The short answer to your question is no, it doesn't matter is your go to an AA meeting for help with a drug/narcotic addiction. Some AA meetings are less open to drug addiction, but if you try a few different AA meetings you're sure to find one where you feel welcome and comfortable at it.

AA with teach you the 12-steps, which will help you to learn how to end you dependence on drugs. The 12-steps combine many forms of addiction treatment and spiritual support to help those who work the steps to end their addiction.

Addiction is disease of the brain that can be fatal if left untreated. So if you or your loved one is struggling with addiction, start going to AA meetings TODAY and working the 12-steps. It sounds like you may have a good start on Step One:

We admitted that we were powerless over alcohol/drugs--that our lives had become unmanageable.
