Discuss it with your brother and other family members first.first

Dear Val,

You're in a very difficult situation because you know information that could harm your brother, but not telling his finance could harm her.

I would recommend that you go to some Al-anon meetings and get advice from people at the meetings who have experience handling a drug addicted loved one. Discuss the situation with different people at the meeting and have them give you advice as to your best course of action.

Are your parents available, have you talked to them about it and asked their advice?

Have you told your brother that you're concerned about his drug use?

Could you convince your brother to tell his finance so that he works through the issue directly with her?

The issue with you telling her is that she may not believe you and it could certainly destroy your relationship with your brother right at a time when he needs you.

If you choose to tell her I would have other members of your family there with you so that she realizes that you're trying to help rather than hurt the situation.

The best thing is if you and your brother could go together and discuss it with her so you can ALL work on solutions that will help him to stop using drugs.

Good Luck!

Debbie
