Heroin

by Nana Troy

(VA)

My 20 year old granddaughter has taken this drug (heroin) in the past, last known date is appr. 7 months ago after she had her son. She has been acting strangely these past few months. She is destructive, argumentative, falls asleep nods off and has been not taking care of her son as well as she used too.

She also has loss of appetite and loss of weight and she no longer has manners and can not seem to remember things that have happened?

What she does also is have suicidal thoughts and remarks of trying to kill her self?

All of the classic signs of addiction

by: Debbie Wicker

From your description, your granddaughter has many of the classic signs of addiction, but it could also be other mental health issues like depression. Knowing exactly what to do for her is difficult because if it is an addiction she will likely lie to you if you ask her about it.

Because she is discussing suicide you need to get her to a doctor for a medical check up as soon as possible. Let the doctor know everything you’ve observed especially about the talk of suicide so that the doctor can help her get the treatment she needs.

Also, I recommend that you begin to attend Al-anon meetings in your area and to learn about addiction. Attending meetings will give you a network of people who can help you through this crisis in a way that helps your granddaughter but does not enable her addiction.

Good Luck!
