How can I get a job?

I am looking for advice on how to get a job with a not so good but not so bad background. I have two DUI’s in Wisconsin and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct on my record. I have had some interviews, it seems every company is doing background checks.

The interviews I have had went great, then no job offers. I am very qualified for the jobs I am applying for and over qualified for others. My field is Retail Management. I have also applied for factory jobs but can’t even get an interview because I do not have any experience in that field.

I have over two years sobriety now. Please help, I am looking for advice, very frustrated.

Many, many people are having trouble finding work

by: Debbie Wicker

I counsel in a free clinic and many people are finding it VERY hard to find a job. Your record is not bad and doesn’t include any felonies so you will eventually find a job.

At the clinic, many people have found jobs by listing with many different temp agencies. There are many smaller temp companies that work with the local companies in their area and often will place you pretty quickly. They usually only do a drug test not a background check.

Once you have a job, any job, then continue to interview for the job you want. Employers are more likely to hire you once you have a job then if you are unemployed.

Keep pushing hard every day; try to list with one agency a day and submitting four resumes a day. Getting a job is a numbers game the harder you look, the more consistently you apply, the sooner you will get a job.

Good Luck and congratulations on your recovery.
