How can I help my nephew who is buying drugs on the internet?

by Maria

My Nephew is 20 and has ADHD on Diazepam from the doctor now and is buying red tablets, drugs from the internet, and now wants MDMA.

Please help he doesn’t want to help his self but I can see him winding up dead .

I want to prevent this what can we do… Please help!

The doctor said they can not refer him to rehab because he is an adult and does not want to go to rehab. Please help or give a way to channel this addiction?

You can take action to help him

Unfortunately, the law protects the rights of addicts to be addicts. The intent of the law is to protect citizens from unnecessary and extreme medical interventions, but even though an addict is engaging in self-destructive behavior, it is his/her right to do so. Family and friends are left feeling helpless.

Your nephew is buying drugs on the internet. I am assuming this is without a prescription. What drugs, but more importantly where are they coming from? You might have an opportunity to see if he is breaking the law, and as harsh as it may seem, that may give you the open door you need to get him into treatment. Getting the police to help you, may be a good step for him.

You might also consider an intervention, where the whole family gathers and confronts the addict. Sometimes the addict, after hearing the emotional toll his addiction has taken on those who love him, may consent to treatment. Treatment centers often have interventionists that can help you to plan the correct approach to get him into treatment.

I would also find a local Al-Anon meeting and get some help from those who have been down the path. Perhaps get his parents and family to go also.

It is never hopeless!

Ned
