How to save sister from Yaba

by Anonna

(Uk)

I suspect that my sister has taken yaba, then after a long period of investigation from her friend I found that she has taken once and also her friend told me that she is no longer taking it. However, she has symptoms of Yaba and I am not sure if she is taking any now or not.

Her mood gets really high. Her behaviour is very rough to family members. She is becoming thinner and thinner, and also she lost her appetite. She is in Bangladesh and I am in Europe studying.

Please help me how can I help her. She is also a job holder.

Hard to help her from so far away.

Dear Anonna,

Sadly, it may be difficult to help your sister if you are such a long way away from her. Does she have any family members near to where she lives that you could discuss your concerns with? Don’t keep you concerns a secret, but also don’t overstate what you know and have observed.

Yaba addiction is a disease of the brain, which if left untreated is often fatal; it is a VERY serious problem. If she has hair loss and is losing weight, recommend that she gets a complete medical checkup and also ask her directly if she is taking Yaba. Try to get her to confide in you and go to a doctor for help. The doctor can only help if she is honest about her drug usage.

Also, you should try to find a local Al-anon meeting where you’re living, and start working the 12-steps to learn as much as you can about addiction and how to help your sister to end it.

Good luck,

Debbie
