There is a lot of help in your area

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Di,

There is a lot of help in your area if you are willing to seek it. I would recommend you begin attending AA meetings daily and attend 90 meetings in 90 days.

There are more than 150 meeting every week in your area so you should be able to find meetings where you feel comfortable and can get the resources you need.

Go to this web address to find meetings:

http://www.aa.org.au/findameeting/index.php

You can start attending meetings even if you are still using and find people at the meetings who can direct you to the best treatment available in your area.

Drug addiction is a FATAL disease so you must get help as quickly as you can. You have made the first step of realizing you have a problem, now take the next step and begin to do something about it.

The 12 steps will work for you if you work them, but you must commit to the AA program and begin to work the steps. Also, try to find a good sponsor who is the same gender as you are and who will help you to work the steps.

Good luck and I hope you get the help you so desperately need:)

Debbie

There are addiction support resources available in India to help you and your brother. Opiate addiction is a fatal disease if left untreated to it is critical that your brother gets the treatment he needs.

Here is a link to the main AA website in India:

http://www.aagsoindia.org/

The 12 step program within AA is the best program to recover from opiate addiction. Research the meeting information and try to convince your brother to go at least three times a week. Also, go with him to open meeting and attend Al-anon if you can. If you start working the program it is MUCH more likely that your brother will start working the program.

Also, go to your doctor and explain the problem and ask your doctor for advice on the best place for your brother to go for treatment and detoxification.

Eliminating addiction often requires: detoxification, inpatient treatment (often at least 6 months), and a recovery program like the 12 steps that must be followed for at least 10 years to avoid relapse.

Good Luck and I hope your brother can recover from his terrible addiction.
