In his book, “The Road Less Traveled,” psychiatrist Dr. M. Scott Peck examines the human condition in terms of four areas –
He makes no distinction between the mind and the spirit and often talks of caring for our soul. He challenges the concept that body, mind and spirit are separate and distinct but rather all integrated together. This concept opens doors in terms of examining these four areas and our own part in addiction and recovery. He contends that we must balance Discipline, Love, Growth and Grace to overcome our addictions.
We at Drug-Addiction-Support.org offer information and links to information to try to help your search for answers. We believe that alcohol and drug addiction are complex and involve all of the above…body, mind and spirit.
Addiction is a disease of the brain and becomes a disease of the SOUL!
Drug addiction, left untreated, becomes a disease of the soul. We have “lost control” and substance abuse has taken control of our lives.
How can you explain the change in behavior that takes a bright, well-educated, ambitious, engaging person and transforms them into a heartless, self-centered liar that steals from his/her own family, abandons their spouse and children, and willfully chooses the road to death rather than a happy and fulfilling life?
Addiction poisons the very soul of a person and turns them into an unreasoning animal. Because addiction is a spiritual disease, if you are going to be healed, your soul must be healed. You can try to overcome drug addiction on your own, like pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps, and some people might be able to do it, but most can’t. Healing our soul is offered as a gift from a “power greater than ourselves”.
People in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction will tell you that one drink, or one hit is too many and a whole ocean-full, or even the most potent drug isn’t enough. Drug addiction does not have to be the winner, but addicts need the tools to access strength and support. You have to be honest with yourself and realistic about the problem. Addicts must realize that they can’t use drugs and they can’t take a drink because the consequences are serious at a minimum, and too often deadly. There is hope!
Many people are helped by spiritual reconnection

Our Recommendations for ALL!
Regardless of what theory of drug addiction you choose to embrace, our recommendation is that you follow the following steps if you believe you or your loved one is addicted to drugs and/or alcohol:
Useful, Easy to Understand Information
Our goal with Drug-Addiction-Support.org is to try to equip you with the right information to help you make good choices.
If you are addicted and you want help, we have information on treatment and recovery. If you are a friend or family member, we will try to help you be helpful. People often feel helpless, but you can be a tremendous source of support and encouragement.
We should note, however, that we have no interest in helping people beat a drug test, or do anything that puts their health in jeopardy.
We firmly stand by the medical community and defer to their professionalism and expertise in medical matters. We’ll give you useful information and connect you with the right resource to answer your questions. This site offers facts and trending information about alcoholism and drug addiction, but one of our principal desires is to encourage people to seek treatment, be it in a residential setting or out-patient. We try to point people in the right direction.
We have well-researched, up to date facts about drug and alcohol addiction to help people to stop their dependence and go into a drug/alcohol rehab as needed.
We view alcoholism as the most common drug addiction people struggle with. Don't miss our special section on Alcoholism:
How can Drug-Addiction-Support.org help you?
On this site you will find useful information and begin your journey back to health. We have divided the topic of drug addiction into bite-sized pieces, to help you sift through the volumes of written material on the subject. We believe we are body, mind and spirit, and each of those need to be treated in order for drug addiction recovery to take place.
Who are we?
Drug-Addiction-Support.org is a website built to answer the questions and concerns of those harmed by alcohol and drug addiction. It’s a collaborative effort between many people and resources so that you receive the most up-to-date information available. Our goal is to be independent and not promote any treatment center over another but give you the tools to make a well-informed decision.
We do recommend that everyone suffering from the destructive disease of drug addiction join a 12-Step group either through your local church, AA, or NA. If you are a family member or loved one of an addict, we recommend you begin the 12-step process with Al-Anon, which is a local organization set up to help you through this challenging situation.
