by Jan

(Janesville, Wisconsin)

My daughter is addicted to heroin and prescription meds. Are there Al-anon groups for parents of addicted children in the Janesville, Wisconsin area?

Many meetings to choose from

Dear Jan,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question, I just returned from vacation. I’m sorry that your daughter and your family are suffering from addiction.

Going to Al-anon is a good idea that will help you to learn to understand your daughter’s addiction, how to help her, but also how to avoid enabling her addiction in ANY way.

Opiate addiction is a disease of the brain that if left untreated is often fatal. So learning the correct way to help your daughter is absolutely critical and that’s what going to Al-anon and working the 12 steps will do for you. Initially, I would try to go to three meetings a week so you can get up to speed as quickly as possible.
