Paranoid and on crack

by Tina

(Ohio)

I’ve been married to my husband for 26 yrs. He has been smoking crack for a year and here the last month it has became a daily thing.

The last four days and nights he has became extremely paranoid. Looking out windows, thinking people are in the house accusing me of lying to him, thinking I’m cheating, going outside in the middle of the night yelling at people that aren’t there.

I love him with all my heart. We got married when I was 15 and I’ll be 42 this year. I want to help him but I don’t know what I can do and if I can handle much more. I’m about ready to go crazy. Any advice please I just need someone to talk to!

Cocaine can cause psychosis!

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Tina,

You should be extremely concerned about your husband and his mental health. Cocaine can cause psychosis that may or may not be permanent. Yelling at people who aren’t there(delusions) and extreme paranoia of both can be symptoms of a severe mental disturbance.

Cocaine addiction is a disease of the brain, which means it attacks the brain and can damage it. If his addiction is left untreated, it will likely be fatal. Put another way, your husband has a fatal disease of the brain that must be treated immediately!

Please get him to a doctor(a psychiatrist if possible) immediately and then into the addiction treatment that the doctor recommends. Also, please begin going to Al-anon meetings in your area TODAY and get advise from them on how to help your husband.

You’re in a crisis situation and the sooner you take action the better the outcome likely will be.

Good Luck,

Debbie
