Subutex and Suboxone

I was wanting to know what the difference is between Subutex and Suboxone? I spent 3 nights in rehab and was taking Subutex and i was sent home with Suboxone??

They are exactly the same and you should have no problems.

Dear Leslie,

The short answer to your question is that Subutex is the brand name for Buprenorphine. Subutex only contains Buprenorphine and nothing else. You should be receiving the exact same effect from the generic.

Suboxone does contain other ingredients, an many believe is less likely to be abused because of the additions.

But switching from the brand name to the generic should cause no issues assuming the same amount is given.

Suboxone has one additional compound that Subutex does not have – naloxone HCI dyhydrate. The primary reason it is added is so that if it is crushed and INJECTED, the user will go into full precipitated withdrawal. This serves one purpose here – as a deterrant for abuse.
