Want to raise money and awareness to help people get treatment?

by Richmond
(New York)

My brother James went to rehab at Veritas 3 times. He passed away on March 5th do to an overdose of Oxycodone, he was 28.

I visited him there many times and know it has always had a great reputation. I am having a memorial basketball tournament for him in Staten Island where we will be raising awareness to the prescription pill epidemic. I want to start a scholarship/ fund in my brother's name and send as many prescription pill addicts to Veritas as possible.

Please let me know how I can get this done. I have the resources to raise a lot of money toward this cause and would like to start the fund ASAP as the date for the event is Oct 14th and people are ready to donate. Please call me to discuss anytime or steer me in the right direction.

Thank you,

Richmond

Great idea and we'd love to help!
by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Richmond,

So very sorry to here about the death of your brother. Prescription addiction is a gigantic problem that seems to be growing everyday.
Relapse often happens with opiate addiction and many people take more than their body can withstand.

We would love to support your efforts to start a scholarship fund for your brother with Veritas. Please send us any information you have about upcoming events and we'll publicize it on the website.

It looks like Veritas has a marvelous program and is a great organization for you to support.

Good Luck,

Debbie

my nephew
by: Lindsey

I just found out my nephew is cutting himself and considering suicide. He asked for counseling at age 10, he is 15 now his mom never got him help and now we are at this point. I love him like my own and life shouldn't be so hard for kids the world is a hurtful difficult place. I want to help kids learn better ways to deal with their sadness and anger. Give them someone they can count on.

I'm a single mom with little income, but have the best relationship with kids because I listen and care I want to find a way to help. Any help from you would be amazing. ..thank you!

Your nephew needs good mental health support!
by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Lindsey,

So very sorry that your nephew is having such terrible issues. He needs good mental health support right away. Suicidal ideation (thoughts of killing yourself) and cutting are symptoms of severe mental health issues and distress. He should see a pediatric psychiatrist immediately and begin weekly counseling ASAP!

Often there are free clinics in your area that will provide these services if you take him to their clinic. Many free clinics offer these services but don't publicize it because they want to limit how many patients they see.

Otherwise go to your local hospital emergency department and ask for information on the best way to get your nephew the mental health support that he so desperately needs.

Good Luck!

Debbie

I want to help!!
by: Anonymous

Hi,

My brother, 23 years old, just passed away on Dec 21,2016. What a horrible Christmas holiday. He struggled with addiction for many years. In February of 2016, he graduated from Teen Challenge and found God. Shortly after his graduation, he fell back in.

He overdosed prior to his death on the 21st but was able to be revived. He had a heart of gold and wanted to better his life and have a successful future. He touched SO many people in his life and I want to honor him. I'm reaching out as much as I can to raise awareness on this horrible epidemic. I would love to set up at scholarship or something in his name to honor him. How can I go about doing this?

Thank you!!

Need Help
by: Charity

I am desperately seeking help ASAP. I have searched and been put on waiting lists for months now only to keep getting told that there is no help .. or you have to have money ..

I recently spoke with a counselor for depression and was told that I am suffering severe PTSD from the trauma not just throughout my life but mostly in the past year. I grew up in a very small town and am pretty much well known in the area ...and I was head cheer leader who came from a very dysfunctional family.

My mother and father both left me at a very young age with my mother’s parents who were older and did the best they could to raise me. They both passed away in my arms a year apart. I fought through the negative life that I was raised in and rose up above what most would have expected.

I have 2 kids, a son who is 24 and a daughter who is 8. My kids are my world. All of my down hill slide came quickly a year ago. I owned my own business and was attacked leaving work one evening by 3 men. In fear, I decided to close my business and move back to the town I was raised in searching for what I knew as a comfort, what I knew as "Home".

Well in the past year since I moved back searching for comfort... I only found complete distraught. I had pretty much lost my whole business, had friends stealing from me , my best friend was murdered by her husband and the man I was in love with who I also grew up with committed suicide .. all in this same year.

I sent my daughter to her fathers to spend summer with him so I could regroup and within that time I started using drugs (Meth). And the downhill rapidly began. I had a brand new car that was totaled by a so called friend who borrowed it ... I lost my house, my savings, and everything I had in storage.

My daughters father now has decided to keep her so I no longer have her which has been the biggest heartache ever to me and kills my soul daily. In 2 days I will pretty much be homeless because I cant get to work without a car. I have done all I can to stay afloat but its come to an end I have reached out to so many begging for help .. and those same people that reached to me and I helped have turn their backs. I have no family left but my kids and my son is giving up but still trying to keep me positive but from afar. Please I am pleading to someone to help put me in a rehab where I can get help with drug use and depression. If I do not get help soon I do not know where I will be... I have nothing else to lose and I am pleading for my life for just someone to help me.

I am screaming for help in anyway and get none ... It is the worst feeling in the world. I do not want to go to a center here local because everyone here knows me but at this point I do not care I just need help and Im really scared what will happen if I don’t get it soon. If I become homeless I am scared more trauma will push me over the edge .. I do not come from my room now and I stay in tears daily miserable .. Please someone help me .. Help Me for My kids !!!! I can not pay I have no money and no insurance …

Raise money thru music/videos
by: Logan

I've struggled with addiction. Lost friends to overdose, and prison. I am wanting to post my music videos on social networks with the option to donate to addiction recovery.

I know that there are people who don't get help simply because they cannot afford it. I want to help. But not sure how to go about doing it. Any suggestions?

May want to create a website on Google
by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Logan,

Sounds like you have a good idea to help others who are struggling with addiction. I'm not really sure how you could do this either, but I do have a suggestion.

Upload your music videos to YouTube, create a free website using Google, add a PayPal donate button to your website and have a link for that page on your videos.

You then could social media to promote your videos and the donation page. If you choose to do this please send us the link and we'll add it to this site.

Good Luck,

Debbie
