Heroin is the most likely

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Dana,

The most common drug that is injected directly into the bloodstream is heroin. By shooting directly into the bloodstream rather than smoking it or snorting it, the “HIGH” is generally intensified and it is more immediate.

You can also inject methamphetamine and some addicts do choose that way to use the drug.

Much less common and more difficult to do is injecting cocaine. It can be done but MOST people snort cocaine.

Drug addiction is caused by using the drug no matter how you choose to use it. Regardless of whether a person snorts, smokes or injects heroin/meth/cocaine they will still become addicted to it. There is an old wives tale that if you aren’t injecting heroin you are REALLY addicted to it. This is certainly not true.

If you or someone you know is taking (smoking, snorting, injecting) heroin/meth/cocaine regularly your/they are addicted to it and should seek support from your/their local hospital to withdraw from it and get treatment to end the addiction.

Hope that answers your question,

Debbie
