Where can I find family support?

by Beth

(Ohio)

I am a mother of a 25 year old who is using drugs. He has a fiance and two children. Is there support for family members in the Masillon, or Canton Ohio area?

LOTS of support available in your area!

Dear Beth,

Getting support for you and you family as you try to come to grips with your son’s drug use is an excellent step. The more you and your family learn and understand the problem of drug use the more help you will ultimately be to your son.

There are two family groups I would recommend visiting. The first is Celebrate Recovery offered at MANY churches across the country. There is a Celebrate Recovery program at First Baptist Church in Massillon Ohio (http://massilloncr.org/) that meets every Tuesday night. To find other locations please search “Celebrate Recovery in Massillon Ohio” and/or “Celebrate Recovery in Canton Ohio” .

Another program I highly recommend is Al-anon. There are also a lot of Al-anon meetings in your area which you can search for. Here is one example:

Meeting Sunday 8:00 p.m. Massillon
Group: Acceptance & Faith AFG
Location:St Joseph Church
Address:322 Third Street SE, Massillon, OH
Notes:Parking on South side, steps to 2nd floor

Try a few different meetings until you find one that suits you and your family. Because it’s all free some meetings are better than others.

These meetings will help you to help yourself, your family and hopefully your son.

Debbie
