How to stop yaba addiction?

by Mrs sadiq
(Dhaka, Bangladesh)

I suspect my son, age 16, is addicted to yaba. He told me that he quit a month ago but recently I've seen the symptoms of addiction return. What should I do to help my son?

You need to work with him any way you can to stop his addiction.

Dear Mrs Sadiq,

If your son is addicted to yaba (which we call meth), he has an extremely serious problem, that you must try to do everything you can to stop.

Drug addiction attacks our brain and stops it from functioning and developing normally. Yaba often is particularly harmful to our brain because of it's chemical composition. When we become addicted at 16, often our brain stops developing and our ability to mature and reason in significantly impaired. We lie about our drug use and are unwilling to stop.

Drug addiction is a disease of the brain, which is often FATAL if left untreated. So your son needs help and likely will fight you every step of the way, because his brain is being overcome by the drug.

I recommend that you go to a doctor with your son and allow your doctor to help you get the treatment support that your son needs. Addiction treatment works wonders and the sooner your son starts treatment the better.

Try to get your son into counseling for addiction that focuses on teens and adolescences. Keep him in that treatment as long as you can, while you learn about addiction.

There is a new method of addiction support called Motivational Interviewing, which can help you learn how to EFFECTIVELY communicate with your son about his addiction.

You should also join Al-anon if it is available in your area and begin working the 12 steps.

Good luck,
