Alcohol the most dangerous drug!

by Debbie Wicker

(Wisconsin)

Alcohol most dangerous drug when you combine the harm it causes to self and others. Based on a study done in the UK:

Findings

MCDA modelling showed that heroin, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine were the most harmful drugs to individuals (part scores 34, 37, and 32, respectively), whereas alcohol, heroin, and crack cocaine were the most harmful to others (46, 21, and 17, respectively). Overall, alcohol was the most harmful drug (overall harm score 72), with heroin (55) and crack cocaine (54) in second and third places.

You can see more information about this on this infographic:

When both individual harm and harm to others are combined alcohol tops the list as the most harmful drug. But because alcohol is legal many people don’t believe this and continue to use and abuse alcohol, which continues the harm that alcohol is causing.

Also, here is a link to the study details that show exactly how the data was analyzed to arrive at this conclusion:

What becomes clear, after you read this study, is that as a culture we have a long way to go in truly understanding and addressing the problems that alcohol is causing. When someone is abusing alcohol and we look the other way or worse encourage them to drink we are doing a disservice to them, ourselves and everyone else that they are involved with.
