Pills helps with withdrawal but don’t stop addiction.

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Enrico,

You’re like most of us, we want to stop our addiction but we don’t want to change our lives and go to rehab. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for crack addiction. There is no addiction pill that will end our addiction.

Rock/Crack or any drug attacks our brain and, when we become addicted, we MUST use to feel “normal”. We often begin to spend much of our time and money focused on getting the drugs our brain is telling us that we must have.

A lot of research has been done on addiction but currently it’s considered to be an incurable disease of the the brain that is often fatal if left untreated.

When you say you’re not willing to go to rehab, it’s understandable, but not a good choice. Few if any of us can end our addiction without outside support. In order to stop the disease of addiction we must become WILLING to do what’s necessary to end our dependence on a drug that is likely killing us.

Please consider going to AA or NA meetings in your area. Just go an listen. It’s confidential and the support we find at meetings helps us to become willing to end our addiction and begin to live our lives again. The 12 step program helps us to understand our addiction and learn to become willing to end it.

Good Luck,

Debbie
