My 25 year old son is a heroin addict?

by Tina

(Ohio)

Please help!

I have a 25 yr. old son whom is addicted to heroin. He wants help, but he does not have the insurance or money for a intake treatment.

We live in Miami County, Ohio. There are facilities in neighboring Montgomery County,Ohio. He does not reside there. He has contacted several places only to find he does not meet their requirements.

Any direction you maybe able to give would be great.

Thanks and God Bless You!

Alternatives

There are many people without insurance these days, but there are alternatives to going without care.

For example, many communities have free clinics.

I would recommend your son have a medical workup at one of these clinics and have a talk with a doctor. There are outpatient treatment plans for heroin addicts, so perhaps one of those would work out for your son.

The worst thing to do is nothing. If your son is 25, does not the new law allow you to put him back on your family plan?

Anyway, through social services of your county, I am sure there is a way for your son to get some help.

Good luck and my God bless you and your son!

My 25 year old son…

Dear Tina,

My son is also a drug addict and he is 27 years old. He was recently in recovery and was going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and had a sponsor from the meetings and was also seeing a drug and alcohol counselor.

He was able to go through the local hospital and get help for medical visits and for the counselor. He only had to pay a VERY small percentage of the bills.

Unfortunately, he relapsed and is now in jail for driving while under the influence of drugs.

So, before anything bad happens to you son please take action quickly! He should be able to go into the detox unit of a local hospital – he would have to go in through the emergency room. I know this because my son has done that before.

Also, please try to get him to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Many times, others who go to the meetings know where more help can be found.

Good luck and I’ll say a prayer for you-Lynette
