My youngest children's mother is addicted to pain pills?

by Michael
(Valparaiso, IN)

My youngest children's mother is addicted to pain medications. She crashed her car and doesn't remember, none of us understand her talking, she constantly misses work, she blames all of us for her problem.

We tried an interdiction and would not give her car keys back to her but she now goes across the street or gets drugs from the people she works with.

Dear Michael,

Opiate addiction is a disease of the brain, and if left untreated it can totally control the addict and is often fatal. It sounds like your children's mother is being consumed by her addiction.

Going to Al-anon meetings and Al-teen for the kids, can help us to understand addiction and figure out ways to help the addict to get the treatment and support they so desperately need. It's very important to work the 12 steps when attending Al-anon meetings in order to gain the insight necessary to help.

There is aa Al-anon meeting in Valparaiso, IN at:

Solution Seekers Discussion
First United Methodist Church
103 N. Franklin St., East Entrance
**OPEN MEETING

on Tuesday night's at 7:30pm

There are also other meetings in your area which are listed on web page listed below:

Good luck, and I hope your children's mother gets the help she needs to move past her addiction and avoid the very negative consequences of addiction she seems to be headed toward.

Debbie
