Please help me to help my son!

by Deborah

My son is in desperate need of help. I don’t know what to do? Please help!

The doctors only gave me a few months to live and I want to see him with the skills to deal with his addiction.

Thank you!

Consider attending Celebrate Recovery!

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Deborah,

I want to offer my deepest condolences for you and for your son at this most difficult of times. If your son is addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, then he likely has a disease of the brain. The disease of addiction will turn him into someone that no one will recognize.

Addiction takes over a person’s brain and CONVINCES them that the ONLY thing that matters is drugs. It’s all they need and they should do anything to get their drug of choice.

Celebrate Recovery is a program offered by many churches that helps both the addict and the families heal from the devastating consequences of drug and alcohol addiction.

Please consider finding meetings in your area and attending them if you can. Reconnecting with God during this most difficult of times is critical and He will lead you to a place where you will understand your son’s addiction and help you to do everything possible to help your son.

Although addiction is a disease of the brain, without your son’s consent it may be very difficult to help him. We each choose our own path in life and your son needs to begin to choose a different path. He also needs to make amends for all of the harm he has done to others and to himself during his addiction.

Hopefully, he will be willing to attend Celebrate Recovery with you and also reconnect with God and learn to lean on Him for a path back from addiction.

May God Bless both you and your son,

Debbie
