Boyfriend and Subutex Help!!

by Alyssa

(Ohio)

My boyfriend has issues with back pain due to a wreck a few years ago. He was having bad back pain at his last job and someone in the factory he worked at gave him a Suboxone and told him it wasn’t an opiate due to blocking them and they weren’t addictive.

After realizing the Suboxone was making him violent someone told him to take Subutex.

He is now addicted and can’t get off. Recently when he does do them he is nodding off and having memory loss as well as delusions.

I was wondering what long term effects Subutex can have on the brain. I can’t seem to find anything on the internet.

Dear Alysa,

Let’s cut to the chase. Your boyfriend needs help, professional help, and the only way to properly answer your question is for him to have a medical assessment. He must go to a doctor and have the doctor help him find the best solution to his problem.

It is very dangerous and foolish to accept prescription drugs from a coworker and take them without the supervision of a doctor.

Then to do the same thing to counteract the effects of the first drug is an invitation for serious trouble. He needs treatment for the addiction and guidance on a long-term pain managment plan.

He has made some very bad decisions so far, so encourage him to seek medical help. You also need support, so a call to Al-Anon would be helpful. Many have been in your situation and can help you see a clear path to helping your boyfriend.
