Methadone

How long dose the methadone stay in your system?

Various Times

Dear Nancy,

Those who use methadone for long-term pain management will find that the drug builds up in the system. However, for most prescribed users, the drug will get through the system in one to seven days.

Anywhere from seven to 52 hours is the half-life of the drug, meaning that’s how long it takes before the drug is half as effective. The time will vary from person to person, but that’s a ballpark.
