Hi- 1. Morphine is the principal constituent of opium and can range from 4-20 percent in concentration. Commercial opium is standardized to contain 10% morphine. 2. Opium comes from the opium poppy flower’s pod. Milky latex from the pod produces a variety of opiates including morphine and codeine. 3. Morphine is a highly addictive drug. It has one of the highest rates of relapse for all forms of drug addiction. If addicted, there are severe physical withdrawal symptoms as well as negative psychological effects.
