Nucynta ER

by David

(Johnson City TN)

My wife has been using opiate pain medicine for years, doctor shopping, etc. when she ran out of legal options to keep herself going, her healthcare professional prescribed her Nucynta ER, telling her it is not a narcotic and is not addictive. Is this a safe medicine to take long term? she doesn’t appear to be titrating down and it has been over a year.

Also, I am relatively sure she “augments” at times with short acting opiate pain medicine.

How safe is Nucynta ER long term. I think her healthcare professional is treating addiction from his pain clinic….

Please help.

oh, and how will I know if you respond?

Get a second opinion

by: Debbie Wicker

Nucynta ER isa very strong pain management drug that can cause problems for someone who may struggle with opiate addiction. Tapentadol is the active ingredient in Nucynta ER and is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of moderate to severe acute pain.

Because of your wife’s history with opiates great care needs to be taken to help manage her pain be to also avoid abuse and addiction.

Consider going to a different doctor for a second opinion about the appropriateness of this drug for your wife. You should go with her into the doctor’s office so you both hear what the doctor says, otherwise your wife may not be forthcoming about what the doctor actually says. To find a good doctor call your local hospital and explain your situation and they should know a good doctor to refer you to.

Good Luck!
