Too many negative effects to list

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Sarah,

Listing all of the negative effects of addiction is all most impossible because there are so man. Here are just a few:

– Death
– Suicide and suicide attempts
– Child neglect
– Human trafficking and slavery
– Mental illness, psychosis, bi-polar
– Harm to unborn children
– Jail
– Divorce
– All kinds of theft and robbery
– All kinds of major medical issues cancer, heart failure, stroke, etc.
– Domestic abuse and violence
– Murder

Just to name a few. Addiction changes the brain of the addict so that ALL that they want is the drug. Nothing else matters or is of ANY value to them.

Over the weekend one of my clients, whose daughter is drug addicted, called to tell me that her daughter was in a car accident and near death from it.

Her daughter has a severed spinal cord and broken neck. She is 23 and has a two-year-old daughter, whose father is drug addicted as well.

That’s the real life effects of addiction.

There are some positive effects of addiction for the very few that need it:

It can help to reduce pain and suffering in the elderly or terminally ill patient. But most of the effects of addiction that people view as positive, being high, relieving stress, reducing anxiety, turn on them and make their mental health problems MUCH worse.

The positive effects of addiction are almost always lies propagated by the dealers to get people to start using to to become dependent on them.
