Dear Rosemary,

I am also a Christian but for 12 years I wandered away from the Lord and became addicted to alcohol and pot. When I wanted to quit it took several tries. I eventually went to my medical doctor who was a very kind man. I had been drinking a lot by then, getting drunk every night by myself. One reason I was afraid to quit was because I thought I might not be able to sleep. He gave me a non-addictive prescription to help me sleep.

He also told me I should go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. I did go and it helped me immensely. You could go to those meetings (they talk about drug addiction, too) or to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. There you will me others in the same or similar situation as yourself. To me it was so refreshing and encouraging to hear people speaking so openly and trying to help each other.

I have now been clean for 25 years. However, my son has been struggling with drugs and alcohol. So, now I attend Al Anon meetings (for friends and families of alcoholics and drug addicts). Again, I have gotten a great deal of help. I also see a counselor, talk to my minister and see my physician’s assistant. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I highly recommend that you get some support for yourself.

Best wishes to you and I will pray for you-Lynette
