Friend Uses Heroin?
Hi Engela- I can definitely understand your concern. If I was you, I would NOT allow my son’s friend, who has used heroin, to stay at my house. Drug addicts can be very dangerous-heroin can cause hallucinations and who knows what the person would do. Also, drug addicts have a way of talking anyone into anything! They often steal from those who are helping them – I am saying this from experience. They get desperate for the drug. They are also very good at covering up the things they do. My son is a drug addict and he is now in jail for driving while under the influence of drugs. However, he is FINALLY saying he wants to be clean, after 13 years of using. He also had been sober and clean from drugs for 7 months before he got arrested. He is 27 years old. For many years all I did was try to help him. But, I finally learned that he really did not want to quit and was just using me and stealing from me. He never did anything physically to hurt me. It’s a very painful lesson but with the help of Al Anon meetings, my counselor, my minister and my doctor I have changed my ways. Now I concentrate on helping myself and giving everything over to God. I don’t know if you have Al Anon meetings in your country-they are for friends and families of alcoholics and drug addicts. There you will find others in the same or similar situation as yourself. I go to them here and it helps me immensely. Get some help for yourself-such as counseling or Al Anon. Or, you could speak to a medical doctor, if possible, for some help as to what to do. I am hoping and praying that you get some support and do not let your son and yourself be taken advantage of.
