Help for family?

by Christina

Good morning, My son is currently in a rehabilitation center for appx 120 days and I am looking for counseling for myself and as well as family once he is home but I’m not sure where to look?

Can this site help me?

Thank you very much.

Three ideas for you

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Christina,

It’s so good that your son is in rehab but getting the right support for the family when he returns is critical.

I have three suggestions for you to help your family find the counseling support they need during this difficult time:

1. Call the treatment center where your son is at and ask them what they would recommend for counseling for the family as your son transitions back into the home. They will know the treatment your son is receiving and should be able to recommend something for you that can compliment that treatment.

2. Call your doctor or local hospital and ask them where they would recommend that you go to get addiction counseling for the family so that you can help your son transition back into his life successfully.

3. Find a good Al-anon meeting. Al-anon is made for family support and can be SO useful to explain everything your family needs to know about addiction and addiction recovery not just for your son but everyone else in the family as well. Addiction is a family disease, it effects everyone!

Good luck to you, your family and your son!

Debbie
