Suboxone detox can be difficult

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Vern,

Suboxone detox can be difficult and should be medically supervised. Because Suboxone is an opiate it has withdrawal symptoms when you stop using it. The withdrawal symptoms tend last much longer than those of other opiates, which is why medical support can be helpful.

I recommend that you call you doctor or local treatment center and ask for their support as you wean yourself off.

Also, you need to be in a recovery program otherwise you’re really still opiate addicted and relapse is likely. Has Suboxone simply replaced the other opiate you were addicted too? Are you in a 12 step program?

Drug addiction is a disease of the brain and until you move into a recovery program you’re not over the addiction. Hopefully, you’re in a 12 step program like AA or NA and have a sponsor. Ask the people in your group where to get help locally for Suboxone detox and they will probably have some great resources for you.

Good Luck!

Debbie
