Uncle in very bad place doing meth?

by Heather

I’m not doing this for me I’m doing this for my uncle Todd. He is at the worst place right now in his life he was been doing meth for about 7 years i would say. He has lost all 5 of his kids because he can’t put the pipe down. He has chosen meth over his kids and now they want nothing to do with him but they want him back to the way he use to be.

What all do/should I do to help him and his/my family?

Your Uncle Needs Treatment

by: Ned Wicker

Dear Heather,
Any substance use disorder is serious business, but meth is particularly nasty because the user is constantly chasing the high, only he never gets there. Your uncle’s craving for the drug owns him. He is powerless to resist.

However, the family can be a powerful force to pull him away from his lifestyle of destruction. You can get help and support from a variety of places, such as Al-anon, who helps people just like to to help the one they love. A local treatment center might offer counsel and help to get him into treatment.

Whatever you do, he will resist strongly. He has no problem, it’s all your problem. He will lie, steal and manipulate. He will abandon all of you, just to get high. So you need to be prepared for a fight.

Get all the family together and seek out the assistance of a trained professional and form a plan, consider an intervention. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
