Is there help for me?

Is there help for me?

by James

Like most alcoholics I suppose I know the answer. I am unable no matter how hard I try to stop drinking and don’t have insurance. I am at present unemployed and though I’ve been to rehab twice I can’t quit drinking.

I am 57 yr old male and at the end of my life ( not suicidal ) just diagnosticly with hep c (12 yrs) and would love to spend the last years in sobriety.

If there is anyway you could give me info on what to do or where to go I am willing to give up everything I own just to live in some form of sanity so I don’t miss what precious I have left of time with my children without being an total idiot alcoholic.

There Is Always Hope

Dear James,

You say you have given this fight your best effort. You say you are willing to sell all you have. As an alcoholic you say you probably know the answer. You can’t stop drinking.

Would you believe me if I told you that you can’t save yourself? The 12 Steps talk of a “”power greater than ourselves”” and “”God, as we understood him.”” Regardless of any religious beliefs you may hold, there is great wisdom in those steps, developed by alcoholics just like you who had nowhere else to turn.

This isn’t about money. This isn’t about treatment. Psalm 46:10 reads, “”Be still and know that I am God…”” Go to meetings and let the AA community support you. Treatment is a good route as well. You’ve been there twice, but maybe that third time is a charm. There is hope.
