Husband addicted to pot

by Penny

I am looking for support as my husband is addicted to weed and it is taking a heavy till on our relationship and on me.

Could you let’s know of any meetings/support I can get to help me understand my husband’s addiction and how I can deal with it?

Thanks

Penny

Doesn’t think he’s addicted

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Penny,

Your husband has a disease of the brain, the disease of drug addiction. He probably doesn’t believe it and thinks he is in control and can quit any time he wants to, but sadly that’s simply not true. Pot has changed his brain chemistry to the point that in order for him to feel “normal” he must use weed.

Your husband needs to stop using, detox from pot, get in an outpatient treatment program and join a 12 step group. Hopefully, over time you will be able to persuade him of this and get him the help and support he needs.

I would recommend that you join an Al-anon group or a Celebrate Recovery Group. These both have excellent support for the family and can help you understand how best to help yourself, your family and your husband.

I also recommend you call your doctor or local hospital and explain to situation to them. Ask for their advice and get a referral for a good treatment program for your husband. Try to persuade your husband to go to that program to get the help he needs to quit.

Good Luck!

Debbie
