What should I do if my fiancé started using drugs again but it was only twice?

My boyfriend of 4 months proposed a month and a half ago and we’re getting married in September. The last 2 months he has been very moody and over reacting when he doesn’t like what I have to say.

After 6 consecutive days of him not speaking to me for saying something mean…We finally talked about everything and he aired he used twice recently. Do you think that he will continue to use? Should I postpone the wedding?

Without treatment he will probably continue to use drugs

Dear Angela,

Before anyone gets married it is important that they are honest with each other to avoid problems in the future.

I do a lot of relationship counseling and have seen drugs cause a lot of unhappiness in marriages. Without getting treatment most people continue to relapse and use drugs even if they can stop for a while.

Not knowing what drug your boyfriend is using and how much he has used, it’s hard for me to say whether or not he is addicted. But you should trust your instincts and if you have concerns you should certainly get them FULLY addressed before your wedding.
