Interested in helping young people in Zimbabwe

by Kelvin

(Zimbabwe)

Thank you for the work you are doing. I am a Christian who is interested in helping young people from my community in Zimbabwe to stay away from drugs and am asking if there is information you can share with me on how I can do it.

What kind of information should I have before I start? Any material I need that you have?

Teen addiction prevention is a challenging topic!

by: Debbie Wicker

Dear Kelvin,

Helping kids learn to avoid drugs and drug addiction is a wonderful idea. There has been a lot of programs tried here is the US but they have often been unsuccessful.

There has been some research done that says the best way to help teens avoid drugs is helping them have sufficient self-esteem that they can avoid the negative effects of peer pressure that we all experience as we’re growing from childhood into adulthood. Certain good spiritual training and support can go a long way to improving a child’s self-esteem.

I don’t have any materials that would be useful for you but I found a wonderful website that has tool kits and tons of information that I would recommend that you consider using. Here is the link for the website:

Good luck and I will pray that you are able to reach and help many kids in your area!

Debbie
